Subject(s): Christmas; Nativity, The

Over the starlight, over the sea,
Over the kingdoms of earth, to me,
Pulsing, and ringing,
Echoing, clinging,
Christmas comes winging,
Resplendently.
Once more a shepherd-throng,
Hymns from the hill,
Once more a virgin's song,
Soothes my wild will.
Echoing still, echoing still --

Over the starlight, over the sea,
Over the wide winging ages, to me,
Looms a bright manger,
The Holy Stranger --
Sovereign and ranger
Kneel reverently.
Once more the angels tread
Heaven's high hill,
Once more an oxen-shed,
Stars a low sill,
Hovering still, hovering still --

Over the starlight, over the tower,
Over my soul ... this white singing hour,
Softly confessing,
An inner blessing --
My heart is possessing,
Peace and good will,
Peace and good will.
