THE COST, by PANSY E. HOWELL First Line: O fate, is it true that you can't take flight Last Line: And for stranger keep a welcome door. Subject(s): Fate; Destiny | ||||||||
O Fate, is it true that you can't take flight And leave a body just for tonight? So she can be those she would love to be And live in wealth and luxury? Oh, no, let me think; let me count the cost, There's more in life for me. May I never break sod like that again, For happiness through service, I see. O Fate, lift the veil and let me glimpse The ways of God and man. I see man seeking happiness in wild pursuit. Now I see and understand. I have lived to find that happiness comes Through serving our fellowman. O Fate! give me wisdom to know myself And sufficient experience to understand. O Fate! give me a home where happiness dwells, Where I may see things clearly and know. I'll live a life square, I know well that I can, And for stranger keep a welcome door. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ATTEMPTING TO ANSWER DAVID IGNATOW'S QUESTION by ROBERT BLY FROST AND HIS ENEMIES by ROBERT BLY THE WORLDS IN THIS WORLD by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR UNABLE TO FIND by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR TO HELEN KELLER - HUMANITARIAN, SOCIAL DEMOCRAT, GREAT SOUL by EDWIN MARKHAM DOMESDAY BOOK: FINDING OF THE BODY by EDGAR LEE MASTERS WE COME BACK by KENNETH REXROTH THE WAKING (2) by THEODORE ROETHKE A CROWNED POET by ANNE REEVE ALDRICH |
