AMONG THE HILLS, by ETHEL AMBLER HUNTER First Line: I love the valleys, where the slow, brown brooks Last Line: The far horison, and the sunset light! Subject(s): Mountains; Wellesley College; Hills; Downs (great Britain) | ||||||||
I LOVE the valleys, where the slow, brown brooks Glimmer along in silence thro' the meadows; Lingering here and there in still, dark pools Under the rocks, and in the woodland shadows. I love the pastures, where the slim, white birch Sways by the low stonewalls and sagging bars; The orchard slopes, the red-brown depths of pine, And sunny fields where daisies bloom like stars. But most I love the upward sweep of hills, To breast their slopes and reach at last the height From which I see the land that lies beyond; The far horison, and the sunset light! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...CALIFORNIA SORROW: MOUNTAIN VIEW by MARY KINZIE CONTRA MORTEM: THE MOUNTAIN FASTNESS by HAYDEN CARRUTH GREEN MOUNTAIN IDYL by HAYDEN CARRUTH IF IT WERE NOT FOR YOU by HAYDEN CARRUTH ELEGY: 9.
