REMEMBER, FATE, by RALPH W. HUNTER First Line: Remember, fate, though you should tear apart Last Line: May give a fool the skill to be a man. Subject(s): Fate; Destiny | ||||||||
Remember, Fate, though you should tear apart The fragile dream a fool has dared to raise, In lofty disregard of all the ways A dream would help the fool to play his part, Or strike until the strongest flesh must fall In agony beneath your ruthless beat -- Though you should force the ultimate defeat Of stubborn hope, your triumph may be small. For one who plumbs the shadowed depths, unknown To those who walk their level way of peace, May gain the hidden secret of release From need to measure life by joy alone; Remember, Fate, your unrelenting plan May give a fool the skill to be a man. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ATTEMPTING TO ANSWER DAVID IGNATOW'S QUESTION by ROBERT BLY FROST AND HIS ENEMIES by ROBERT BLY THE WORLDS IN THIS WORLD by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR UNABLE TO FIND by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR TO HELEN KELLER - HUMANITARIAN, SOCIAL DEMOCRAT, GREAT SOUL by EDWIN MARKHAM DOMESDAY BOOK: FINDING OF THE BODY by EDGAR LEE MASTERS WE COME BACK by KENNETH REXROTH THE WAKING (2) by THEODORE ROETHKE |
