A CHRISTMAS HYMN, by MARY K. HUTCHENS First Line: We pray for peace at christmas time Last Line: To paths of peace for aye. Subject(s): Prayer | ||||||||
We pray for peace at Christmas time That war shall be no more; The Star of Bethlehem still shines As in the days of yore, When angels sang of peace on earth Good will to all mankind, Wise men and shepherds followed far The Prince of Peace to find. Peace on the earth, good will to men? The angels' song seems lost, As nations strive, and conflicts rage With ghastly holocaust. There is no peace! Men of good will, When will ye tread again The way of love and sacrifice To cleanse the hearts of men? Then only will the tumults cease And wars' alarms depart, When brotherhood and love shall rule In every human heart. O Star of Bethlehem, lead on; Teach us to find the way From selfishness, distrust and greed, To Paths of Peace for Aye. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...UNHOLY SONNET 11 by MARK JARMAN LISTEN, LORD: A PRAYER by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON A PRAYER FOR THE FUTURE by GEORGE BARLOW (1847-1913) DIFFERENT WAYS TO PRAY by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE PRAYER DURING A TIME MY SON IS HAVING SEIZURES by SHARON OLDS WE WHO PRAYED AND WEPT by WENDELL BERRY PRAYERS AND SAYINGS OF THE MAD FARMER by WENDELL BERRY DOWN THE BROOK by ROBERT FROST |
