NEW NEIGHBOR, by CLARA HYDE First Line: She had a modern furnished home Last Line: The guests that never came. Subject(s): Neighbors | ||||||||
She had a modern furnished home With deep, delightful chairs Designed for entertaining guests Who drop in unawares. A silver service built for tea Upon a shining tray -- A fire place, cosy as could be For dreaming hours away; A radio that brought a tune From any foreign land, Red roses in a Rookwood vase -- A teakwood smoking stand. Alas, that old time courtesy Today is but a name; Her door stood wide to welcome The guests that never came. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...BRIGHT SUN AFTER HEAVY SNOW by JANE KENYON THE MAN INTO WHOSE YARD YOU SHOULD NOT HIT YOUR BALL by THOMAS LUX PLASTIC BEATITUDE by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR BESIDE MILL RIVER by MADELINE DEFREES HELSINKI, 1940 by ANSELM HOLLO |
