NOSTALGIA, by IGNACE M. INGIANNI First Line: I must go back where emerald waters hide Last Line: By gazing at the glory of a field. Subject(s): Nostalgia | ||||||||
I must go back where emerald waters hide Among the scented ferns and mossy bed Of yellow lilies nodding head on head Spilling their petalled goblets with the tide. My doors and windows shall be opened wide For I must live with birds and vines that spread Their tangled flames about my weathered shed; Where winds shall be my music and my guide. I must go back and trample down the years And lean my weary limbs upon a plow -- Forget these empty days, remembering how The morning breaks over the earth with spears Of liquid fire; I know I shall be healed By gazing at the glory of a field. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE BELL FROM EUROPE by WELDON KEES THE STONE TABLE by GALWAY KINNELL LETTER TO MAXINE SULLIVAN by HAYDEN CARRUTH HANGING THE BLUE NUNS; FOR WARREN CARRIER by MADELINE DEFREES OF POLITICS, & ART by NORMAN DUBIE MY SISTER LIKED THE POSTCARD OF SNOW by ANSELM HOLLO THE PLAYER PIANO by RANDALL JARRELL |
