LOVER'S LANE, by DORIS W. INSCHO First Line: No more we sit in 'lover's lane' with moonlight shining clear Last Line: For lovers' lane, -- oh, lover dear, to think it tested real! Subject(s): Aging; Love | ||||||||
No more we sit in "Lovers' Lane" with moonlight shining clear, -- We have no time to do so now we have these children dear! But every time it comes to mind, the same effect is brought, -- My heart speeds up, my pulses waken at the very thought! Your arm is round me, strong and kind, my head beside your chin, -- There is no world of care and woe, but peace like heav'n within. I sense a surge of happiness as when a robin sings. The tremor tingles through me that Beethoven music brings. I know, of course, that Lovers' Lane might stir me bitterly If you had proved unworthy or had been untrue to me. It is a tribute to our love, -- this sentiment I feel For Lovers' Lane, -- Oh, Lover dear, to think it tested real! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE INVENTION OF LOVE by MATTHEA HARVEY TWO VIEWS OF BUSON by ROBERT HASS A LOVE FOR FOUR VOICES: HOMAGE TO FRANZ JOSEPH HAYDN by ANTHONY HECHT AN OFFERING FOR PATRICIA by ANTHONY HECHT LATE AFTERNOON: THE ONSLAUGHT OF LOVE by ANTHONY HECHT A SWEETENING ALL AROUND ME AS IT FALLS by JANE HIRSHFIELD WHAT WE SAID THE LIGHT SAID by JAMES GALVIN PROLONGED SONNET: WHEN THE TROOPS WERE RETURNING FROM MILAN by NICCOLO DEGLI ALBIZZI |
