THE RIVETER'S SONG, by GLADYS V. JACKSON First Line: Skyward reaching to bridge the span Last Line: The rollicking riveter's song.... Subject(s): Buildings & Builders; Rivets & Riveting | |||
Skyward, reaching to bridge the span, Inch by inch, according to plan, As structures rise by the work of man, You'll hear the riveter's song.... From girder to beam with daring skill, 'Gainst time and space he pits his will, And below, the teeming world stands still 'Waiting the riveter's song.... Catching the toss with dextrous grace, As each molten pin clefts the space, Driving it true to its destined place, As he sings the riveter's song.... Resounding there as they slowly raise Steel to steel, in a web-like maze, From murky dawn to the evening haze, You'll hear the riveter's song.... The 'scraper now, with smoke for a shroud Is forgotten today by a milling crowd, And stilled the song that once rang loud, The rollicking riveter's song.... | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...WORLD'S WORTH by DANTE GABRIEL ROSSETTI THIRTEEN WAYS OF LOOKING AT A BLACKBIRD by WALLACE STEVENS THE BALLAD OF BITTER FRUIT by THEODORE FAULLAIN DE BANVILLE PSALM 23 by OLD TESTAMENT BIBLE STRANGE PERSPECTIVE by EDMUND CHARLES BLUNDEN ARISTOPHANES' APOLOGY; BEING THE LAST ADVENTURE OF BALAUSTION: PART 2 by ROBERT BROWNING |
