ACHIEVEMENT, by FLORENCE JENNEY First Line: When my young soul went first to ride Last Line: She takes the air. Subject(s): Soul | ||||||||
When my young Soul went first to ride And take the air, I stitched a gown of finest words For her to wear, Lacy white, and ribbon-tied With doting care. When next my Soul fared out, she wore Plain garb and grey; Close-buttoned from her chin to feet She rode away; Behind a double-bolted door Her finery lay. Now, when my Soul rides out, I fold With strictest care Each slightest garment stern away, And loose her hair; Godiva-shy, Godiva-bold, She takes the air. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE CRUEL FALCON by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE WHOLE SOUL by PHILIP LEVINE I KNOW MY SOUL by CLAUDE MCKAY HONORING THE SAND; IN MEMORY OF JOSEPH CAMPBELL by ROBERT BLY THE CHINESE PEAKS; FOR DONALD HALL by ROBERT BLY THE LIFE OF TOWNS: TOWN OF THE EXHUMATION by ANNE CARSON CHERRY BLOSSOMS BLOWING IN WEST BLOWING SNOW by JAMES GALVIN |
