O mystery that weighs upon my soul! why do the shadows stifle me?
Yet a sacrament seeks to drive off the devilish puppets with the flail of a
chastity;
A belfry bewails the memory of an anguish—
O horribly static enigma!
O blue rhythm in the clamors of the world!
But the Eiffel Tower is seized with catalepsy,
While I walk under the trees bewitched by a moon.
And an April wind rambles through the carcass, running foul of the tense muscles
of the monster,
And the wireless is the apostle of an anguish on the trestles of life.

The continents crackle in my brain;
There's been a big accident somewhere and the patrol wagon rolls along the
pavement—
All the bars will spew forth vice—
The damsels of L'Étoile will enter with their companions of a night
And the dives of delight will put their lights out.

O sweet mystery! O bodily enigma! O dream that destroys velocity!
Blast my thoughts that cling to the eternal grind!
