REQUIEM, by
First Line: And now it's done and over with
Last Line: For nights (and days) to softly stare at one by one ...

And now it's done and over with:
Embalm the dream
And place it in the granite Kremlin of the mind
Where each passing day (and night)
Can stop and stare and wonder at its rigid tensity ...

Then ask of it:
Did this once stir the heart
Like sight of moon through clinging clouds
Or curve of wings near yielding shores
Or sound of wind seducing trees?

Then ask and ask again:
Was this the bridge that spanned the world
From phantasy to frightful fact?
Was this the prismic glass that caught the dawn?
Was this the quickening haven of your love?

The mausoleum of the mind
Will keep it safe within its granite room
Away from prying time's mephitic shadow:
Yes, keep the dream embalmed and cool
For nights (and days) to softly stare at one by one ...
