SILENCE COMES TO A GARDEN, by MURRAY C. KIRK First Line: Pale petals slowly spiral to the earth Last Line: Each hope, like incensed bloom, we could not hold. Subject(s): Memory; Silence | ||||||||
Pale petals slowly spiral to the earth And laden bees wing home across the wall That rims this drift of bloom. Faint sounds of mirth, And pulsing throb of toil, and echoed fall Of harried footsteps in the street, are lost In veiling dusk that stills the song of birds And tints each whitened bud and leaf, like frost Then silencelittle windsremembered words. Apart from restless dreams that light the sky Of youth on silvered sweep of fragile wings, A place within the soul is set, where lie In memory, Life's lovely, shattered things. And there, the dusk of years shall gently fold Each hope, like incensed bloom, we could not hold. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A SONG OF SILENCE by LOUISA SARAH BEVINGTON TANKA DIARY (9) by HARRYETTE MULLEN 7 A.M., A MAN AND A WOMAN by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR THIS MORNING, GOD by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR |
