CHRISTMAS, TODAY AND YESTERDAY, by GUSTAV A. KLEINSCHMIDT First Line: The christmas days of long ago Last Line: Sufficient for worship divine. Subject(s): Worship | ||||||||
The Christmas days of long ago To cheeks and eyes brought happy glow; How beautiful the church bells chime Bringing their message at this time. The candles on the Christmas trees Radiated sweet joy and peace; The worshipers, old-fashioned still, Sincere believed in peace, good will. Today we find the times have changed, Business-like programs are arranged. Electric lights adorn the tree Likewise tinsel glitters freely. The church bell chimes are out-of-date, No time to hear them, early, late. But vested choirs march along Filling the church with their new song. Dear Father Time, once more we pray, Let us live through those Christmas days Which are lost in the hall of ages But still live in memory's pages. Today we hear the radio Forever always on the go, Some think that thirty minutes' time Sufficient for worship divine. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...COMPANIONSHIP by MALTBIE DAVENPORT BABCOCK FOR I WILL CONSIDER YOUR DOG MOLLY by DAVID LEHMAN RUSSIAN CATHEDRAL by CLAUDE MCKAY LITTLE WHITE CHURCH by MARILYN NELSON A STEEPLE ON THE HOUSE by ROBERT FROST MATE (1) by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON ANSWER TO PRAYER by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON THE TEN COMMANDMENTS by GEORGE SANTAYANA POETICAL ABSTRACTS: 2.
