LILAC TIME, by JOSEPHINE M. LANE First Line: Somewhere near a fence, I think Last Line: I'll plant this one tree more. Subject(s): Flowers; Lilacs | ||||||||
Somewhere near a fence, I think I'll plant a lilac tree Where little boys may mount and stretch In realms of fragrant glee And gather all the purple stars Their hungry eyes can see -- That trees within my garden walk May blossom as they will, That all their lovely fragrance then May unmolested spill Into our open windows and upon our greening lawn Without a weary watchman To guard from dusk to dawn! Such is my thought as now I grope Through wreckage 'round my door, Such is my thought -- yes, such my hope -- I'll plant this one tree more. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...LILACS FOR GINSBERG by GERALD STERN LAST LOOKS AT THE LILACS by WALLACE STEVENS LILAC: FIRST EMOTIONS OF LOVE by ROBERT BURNS PRESIDENT LINCOLN'S BURIAL HYMN by WALT WHITMAN DESIGN OF WHITE LILACS by GRACE HAZARD CONKLING WITH LILACS by CHARLES HENRY CRANDALL OLD HOME by MABEL GOULD DEMERS |
