TO HIS MISTRESS UPON GOING TO TRAVEL, by HENRY LAWES Poet's Biography First Line: Dearest, do not now delay me Last Line: Which restrained, a heart is broken. Subject(s): Farewell; Travel; Parting; Journeys; Trips | ||||||||
DEAREST, do not now delay me, Since thou knowest I must be gone; Wind and tide, 'tis thought doth stay me, But 'tis wind that must be blown From thy breath whose native smell Indian odours doth excel. O then speak, my dearest Fair, Kill not him who vows to serve thee, But perfume the neighbouring air, For dumb silence else will starve me 'Tis a word is quickly spoken, Which restrained, a heart is broken. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...RICHARD, WHAT'S THAT NOISE? by RICHARD HOWARD LOOKING FOR THE GULF MOTEL by RICHARD BLANCO RIVERS INTO SEAS by LYNDA HULL DESTINATIONS by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN THE ONE WHO WAS DIFFERENT by RANDALL JARRELL THE CONFESSION OF ST.
