OLD SHOES ARE BEST, by JENNIE ORR LEUI First Line: You look so old and shabby where you rest Last Line: Long after summer days have passed. Subject(s): Shoes; Boots; Sneakers; Shoemakers | ||||||||
You look so old and shabby where you rest There on my closet floor -- and yet I like you best. You've served me well in fair and foul weather. And we have traveled many a mile together. You've been my gypsy shoes -- you took me places Away from beaten paths, familiar faces: One time it was a country lane all gay With flowers -- again, a field of new-mown hay That lured us on our way; and we have stood On mossy banks of rivers, tramped a fragrant wood. And once, at dawn, we climbed a green-clad hill Just as the sun came up -- a wondrous thrill! Old shoes, you bring me dreams -- dreams that will last Long after summer days have passed. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE BROKEN SANDAL by DENISE LEVERTOV FOR AL-TAYIB SALIH by KHALED MATTAWA SNEAKERS by E.
