First Line: The writing of fourteen-line sonnets
Last Line: Too few are for half-quatrain!
Subject(s): Poetry & Poets; Sonnet (as Literary Form); Writing & Writers

The writing of fourteen-line sonnets
To eyebrows of ladies so fair
Was easy enough for the poets
When eyebrows were still marked by hair.

Today, though, just glance in a mirror
And pity the bards who now reign,
When hairs on the feminine eyeline
Too few are for half-quatrain!
