ALCHEMY, by SARAH LITSEY First Line: Ask me to remember and all that I could tell Last Line: And the dawn came riding like a cavalcade of fear. Subject(s): Dawn; Sunrise | ||||||||
Ask me to remember and all that I could tell Would be of night coming and how the dark fell Silently and softly and the world seemed older And a hill went to sleep with the moon on its shoulder. Ask me if I loved you and I could only say, There were three tall trees and the river lay Dead and above us was a star-pricked patch of sky, And once I was awakened by a night thing's cry. I've long ago forgotten how the story goes, But I still remember sharply how a cold wind rose And the stars fled trembling and the moon dropped near And the dawn came riding like a cavalcade of fear. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THIS MORNING, GOD by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR BURNING DAWN by HAYDEN CARRUTH DAWN by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON IN THE GARDEN AT THE DAWN HOUR by EDGAR LEE MASTERS EARLY RISER by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE |
