CHARLIE LUCAS, by WILLIAM STAPLETON LONG First Line: Charlie lucas didnt know Last Line: "debbul git yuh!" | |||
Charlie Lucas didn't know When his feet were moving slow -- But his feet were unimportant; He had music stepping lively Through his head When he said: 'Walk boy; Debbul git yuh!" Unseen harps and banjos, strumming, Joined the ghostly voices, humming; Yet prosaic, uninspiring, Were the endlessly untiring Words he mumbled As he stumbled: "Walk boy; Debbul git yuh!" Jungle rhythms timed his shuffling Hands and feet, forever ruffling Mounds of hay or piles of corn. Afternoon or early morn -- Every word Ever heard: "Walk, boy; Debbul git yuh!" | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...TO HELEN KELLER - HUMANITARIAN, SOCIAL DEMOCRAT, GREAT SOUL by EDWIN MARKHAM THE WINE OF NIGHT by LOUIS UNTERMEYER SONNETS FROM THE PORTUGUESE: 20 by ELIZABETH BARRETT BROWNING APRIL'S LAMBS by WILLIAM HENRY DAVIES ASTROPHEL AND STELLA: 68 by PHILIP SIDNEY FAUSTINE by ALGERNON CHARLES SWINBURNE LITTLE GIFFEN by FRANCIS ORRERY TICKNOR TO THE RAILROAD MEN by FRANKLIN PIERCE ADAMS TO THE SKYLARK by BERNARD BARTON QUATORZAINS: 11.
