ENNUI, by LILITH LORRAINE First Line: I am so weary of expected places Last Line: Of sunken temple bells beneath the sea. Alternate Author Name(s): Wright, Mary M. Subject(s): Boredom; Ennui | ||||||||
I am so weary of expected places, Oh, let me find some lost enchanted lane, Where pre-humanic feet have left their traces And horror stabs with needle points of pain. Oh, lead me where some black cathedral raises Sharp spires like swords against the bleeding sky, And if my life goes out where lightning blazes, At least the gods have kissed me ere I die. Or fling me on the dim and perilous beaches, Whose rocks are red with blood of ancient wars, Where black rebellious winds with thundering reaches, Tear at the throats of the complacent stars; While the wild deep intones the litany Of sunken temple bells beneath the sea. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...TO TWO UNKNOWN LADIES by AMY LOWELL THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL by JOHN ASHBERY THE DREAM SONGS: 14 by JOHN BERRYMAN TWO OF A KIND by WALTER TALLMADGE ARNDT THE LORD OF THOULOUSE; A LEGEND OF LANGUEDOC by RICHARD HARRIS BARHAM |
