Oh, night sublime, too brief, when we two stood On that old porch, moonlit, vine-covered, Hushed were the birds in yonder silent wood, Our star was silver overheadit was September. Above our souls, the soul of parting hovered. Do you remember? And that last moment ere we turned to go Heaven seemed to flood the very world with light. Your kiss upon my brow, your words "I love you so," As sitting by the hearth alone in bleak December, Are memory's candles, that I burn tonight. Yes, I remember. And as the nights go traveling down the years Your eyes meet mine in yonder brilliant star, Your ardent love for me alone is solace for my tears, Through time and through EternitySeptember or December That night is oursour heartsour soulsthough distant far We still remember. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE THREE CHILDREN by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN STUDY #2 FOR B.B.L. by JUNE JORDAN WATCHING THE NEEDLEBOATS AT SAN SABBA by JAMES JOYCE SESTINA: TRAVEL NOTES by WELDON KEES BOATS IN A FOG by ROBINSON JEFFERS CHARLOTTE CORDAY (REVOLUTIONARY TRIBUNAL, JULY 17, 1793) by EDGAR LEE MASTERS |
