WATER COLOR, by DEAN BELDEN LYMAN JR. First Line: Along the winding reaches of the river Last Line: Hark, in the distance! Hark to the night-owl crying. Subject(s): Water | ||||||||
Along the winding reaches of the river The water-willows bend above the tide. Through the sentient semi-darkness quiver The trembling shafts of twilight. Side by side Between the willows indolently glide Two swans with sinuous necks and moveless wings. The water ripples, the wakes combine, divide, Grow faint, and fail in the twilight's glimmerings. The genius of the evening hither brings Only the muted music which is his: Waters that slide and murmur, rustling things -- Thin willow leaves. How grey the water is! Twilight is failing on the river -- dying. Hark, in the distance! Hark to the night-owl crying. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...STARS WHICH SEE, STARS WHICH DO NOT SEE by MARVIN BELL WASHING OUR HANDS OF THE REST OF AMERICA by MARVIN BELL WATER, WINTER, FIRE by MARVIN BELL CHAMBER MUSIC: 35 by JAMES JOYCE THE BATTLE OF NEW ORLEANS [JANUARY 8, 1815] by THOMAS DUNN ENGLISH |
