MESSAGES, by ALMINA M. MACY First Line: When a message on paper is left at the door Last Line: At our doors and our hearts through the fragrance of things. Subject(s): Flowers; Letters | ||||||||
When a message on paper is left at the door, We turn it, and ponder it, o'er and o'er; We scan it and weigh it, with many a thought, And feast on the pleasure the message has brought. The mailman is wondering as he goes by, Has he brought us a prize, or a smile, or a sigh? What will he bring when he comes here again, Sorrow in sunshine? Joy in the rain? We return from abroad midst the early spring showers, And we find at the doorstep the sweetest of flowers, Each a message of love that God lavishly flings At our doors and our hearts through the fragrance of things. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...LOVE LETTER FROM AN IMPOSSIBLE LAND by WILLIAM MEREDITH ALL SHE WROTE by HARRYETTE MULLEN LETTER TO MAXINE SULLIVAN by HAYDEN CARRUTH THE AFTERLIFE: LETTER TO SAM HAMILL: 1 by HAYDEN CARRUTH THE AFTERLIFE: LETTER TO STEPHEN DOBYNS: 1 by HAYDEN CARRUTH THE AFTERLIFE: LETTER TO STEPHEN DOBYNS: 2 by HAYDEN CARRUTH LETTER TO MOTHER by JOHN CIARDI ISAIAH, JEREMIAH, EXEKIEL, DANIEL by MARIANNE MOORE DOUGLAS, DOUGLAS, TENDER AND TRUE by DINAH MARIA MULOCK CRAIK |
