THE TERRACE, by XAVIER DE MAGALLON Poet's Biography First Line: Man, come out on your terrace Last Line: With these familiar things. Subject(s): Farewell; Parting | ||||||||
"Man, come out on your terrace; The day that slips from sight Takes off its jewels and sets them On the sparkling fingers of night. "The tender moon is just reborn; The sun, your reason's bell, Gilding the eyes of your windows, Bids them a far farewell. "On the sand, a playful dog With timid purlings that please, The ocean, along the foot of the hill Comes to lie at your knees." ... With a star on his right and a star on his left The man comes, handsome as summer can be; He walks the narrow terrace And sits in majesty. The moon dances upon his cheeks, To his feet the sun's kiss wings: He looks about him, dreams, and plays With these familiar things. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE THREE CHILDREN by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN STUDY #2 FOR B.B.L. by JUNE JORDAN WATCHING THE NEEDLEBOATS AT SAN SABBA by JAMES JOYCE SESTINA: TRAVEL NOTES by WELDON KEES |
