CANDLELIGHT, by NORA HEFLEY MAHON First Line: There is a potency in candlelight Last Line: That seem so hallowed by the watch they keep. Subject(s): Candles; Churches; Cathedrals | ||||||||
There is a potency in candlelight: I see a great cathedral where there burn Tall candles in a dim and flickering glow, Still figures kneeling, while low voices give Their murmured prayers -- these rise and softly go. A banquet board is spread, and 'neath soft shades Of rose and gold a filtered light streams out To play upon the scene of Beauty rare, With Wit and Romance in a merry bout. Within a quiet chamber quiet lies A form all peaceful in the last deep sleep, Guarded by tapers with a mellow sheen, That seem so hallowed by the watch they keep. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...VIRGIN IN GLASS by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN THE HOUR BETWEEN DOG AND WOLF: 3.
