AMBITION, by SARAH C. MAYO First Line: Lo! On the mountain's brow Last Line: O'er all this world of need! Alternate Author Name(s): Edgarton, Sarah C. Subject(s): Ambition | ||||||||
Lo! on the mountain's brow One point of gleaming light! And thither climbest thou, With eye and spirit bright. Ay, thou at least shalt stand In all that golden glow, A sceptre shining in thy hand To rule the world below. Oh use that sceptre well! Not as a spear to smite, But like a wand of mighty spell To serve the cause of Right! If thou win power, do good! If Fame, deserve thy meed! If Wealth, oh, pour it like a flood O'er all this world of need! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A RHYME OUT OF MOTLEY by AMY LOWELL PENCIL STUB JOURNALS: ON AN EXALTED NONENTITY by JOHN CIARDI THERE ARE ROUGHLY ZONES by ROBERT FROST SPOON RIVER ANTHOLOGY: ALBERT SCHIRDING by EDGAR LEE MASTERS THE ARCHITECT (2) by KAREN SWENSON WATERING THE HORSE by ROBERT BLY FAILING AND FLYING by JACK GILBERT |
