CHILDREN'S ROOM, by RUTH E. MCCOY First Line: This grimy cherub, lacking wings Last Line: He gives allegiance to his dream. Subject(s): Children; Childhood | ||||||||
This grimy cherub, lacking wings, Leans to a printed page that sings Of knights and wars and older days, Of gallant times and gallant ways. Laughter and chaos mingle here To whisper glory in his ear; He mixes life and death awry, Sets earthly beings in the sky. In his mind, peace and marching feet Blend to a wonderment complete: His eyes, his heart, are keen to all The splendours which about him fall, While, ignorant of time or scheme, He gives allegiance to his dream. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE THREE CHILDREN by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN CHILDREN SELECTING BOOKS IN A LIBRARY by RANDALL JARRELL COME TO THE STONE ... by RANDALL JARRELL THE LOST WORLD by RANDALL JARRELL A SICK CHILD by RANDALL JARRELL CONTINENT'S END by ROBINSON JEFFERS ON THE DEATH OF FRIENDS IN CHILDHOOD by DONALD JUSTICE THE POET AT SEVEN by DONALD JUSTICE TO JOHN BROWN by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON |
