DEVOTION, by BERTA G. MCGUIRK First Line: When all your days are bright and fair Last Line: Against each hurt till all is past. Subject(s): Contentment | ||||||||
When all your days are bright and fair, I do not mind, too much, just where Your sunny hours are gayly spent. Content to know that you exist; Brief moments, even, I resist That longing, all your life to share: Content then, if not happy, too, I live -- I breathe away from you. But when your life by storm is rent No longer can I rest content; Heart throbs suspended or perturbed, Hard-won placidity disturbed; My spirit yearns to hold you fast Against each hurt till all is past. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...PARTHENOPHE: SONNET 66 by BARNABE BARNES I UNCOIL MYSELF AND LIE STRAIGHT OUT by DAVID IGNATOW WITHOUT RECRIMINATION by DAVID IGNATOW EVENTIDE by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL by DORIANNE LAUX TO TWO UNKNOWN LADIES by AMY LOWELL ANDRE'S LAST REQUEST [OR, REQUEST TO WASHINGTON] [OCTOBER 1, 1780] by NATHANIEL PARKER WILLIS |
