A DREAM, by MINA MERRITT-SAEGER First Line: Beneath the singing boughs and sacred stars Last Line: The perfume of love's immortality. Subject(s): Immortality; Love; Love - Nature Of | |||
Beneath the singing boughs and sacred stars I strayed in earthly paradise with you, And dreamed of love defying time and space, An ecstasy transcending human ties Where soul met soul in harmony complete, With love enduring as the Absolute. Since then the cool, gray days have intervened; The glow has faded and the music ceased. But why deplore it as a fleeting dream Born of the heart's great longing and desire? While lived, the dream was true; and is today, The perfume of Love's Immortality. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...RESCUE THE DEAD by DAVID IGNATOW BUTTERFLIES UNDER PERSIMMON by MARK JARMAN CHAMBER MUSIC: 27 by JAMES JOYCE CHAMBER MUSIC: 28 by JAMES JOYCE CHAMBER MUSIC: 30 by JAMES JOYCE HE WHO KNOWS LOVE by ELSA BARKER LOVE'S HUMBLENESS by ELSA BARKER SONG (IN THE LUCKY CHANCE) by APHRA BEHN INSPIRATION by MINA MERRITT-SAEGER |
