LIFE, I AM YOURS, by ROSELLE MERCIER MONTGOMERY Poet's Biography First Line: Life, I am yours, and I shall ever be Last Line: For I am yours, life, and shall ever be! Subject(s): Life | ||||||||
LIFE, I am yours, and I shall ever be! Death comes to woo me, swaggering and bold, But he will find no faithfulness in me, And though he win meyet he cannot hold! I cannot think I shall unheeding lie, And stir not at the summoning of Spring; My heart will tremble when young May goes by, My dust will burgeon to her blossoming. Though Death, who is so used to constancy, Will never dream that I can be untrue, Oh, I shall hear you calling, calling me, And find a way, Life, to come back to you! I shall go with the mounting sap that goes To be the lifeblood of some towering tree; Or, when the west wind whispers to the rose, I shall be thereit will be whispering me! No, Death will find no constancy in me For I am yours, Life, and shall ever be! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...PRIVILEGE OF BEING by ROBERT HASS SEAWATER STIFFENS CLOTH by JANE HIRSHFIELD SAYING YES TO LIVING by DAVID IGNATOW THE WORLD IS SO DIFFICULT TO GIVE UP by DAVID IGNATOW A DESERTED HOUSE by ROSELLE MERCIER MONTGOMERY |
