CREDO, by CORAL MORGAN First Line: I know my people. Looking from afar Last Line: And I shall bid my kinsmen enter in. Subject(s): Houses; Religion; Theology | ||||||||
I know my people. Looking from afar I have beheld them. I have learned their tongue and could converse with them even as one accustomed, and the gods they worship are my gods. I do not beat the door they bar against me; I have built, and it is done, a house as tall as theirs against the sun, pointing its turrets to the self-same star. So I have built, not bitterly nor in pride, a noble dwelling, firm upon the rock, firm on the faith that they are of my kin. And so I warm my house, and brew, and bide. And I shall open to them when they knock and I shall bid my kinsmen enter in. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MYSTIC BOUNCE by TERRANCE HAYES MATHEMATICS CONSIDERED AS A VICE by ANTHONY HECHT UNHOLY SONNET 11 by MARK JARMAN SHINE, PERISHING REPUBLIC by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE COMING OF THE PLAGUE by WELDON KEES A LITHUANIAN ELEGY by ROBERT KELLY IT'S FAST THEY GO by CORAL MORGAN |
