BY HIS BEDSIDE, by FERN MARY MUNSELL First Line: Dear little fellow - you are fast Last Line: Gentleness. Subject(s): Children; Patience; Regret; Wisdom; Childhood | ||||||||
Dear little fellow -- you are fast asleep in bed; One who loves little children, such peacefulness has spread all round about that childish troubles have been blotted out. Those words of harshness that today I said, I hope are banished from your sleepy head, and as you leave another day behind, I wish that I had been a bit more kind; but when you start upon a newer day, I'll try to teach you in a gentler way. Dear God -- help me acquire before he wakes a greater wisdom from today's mistakes; help me to be more patient, and possess a deeper quality of gentleness. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE THREE CHILDREN by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN CHILDREN SELECTING BOOKS IN A LIBRARY by RANDALL JARRELL COME TO THE STONE ... by RANDALL JARRELL THE LOST WORLD by RANDALL JARRELL A SICK CHILD by RANDALL JARRELL CONTINENT'S END by ROBINSON JEFFERS ON THE DEATH OF FRIENDS IN CHILDHOOD by DONALD JUSTICE THE POET AT SEVEN by DONALD JUSTICE PURSUANCE by FERN MARY MUNSELL |
