LOVE SANG FROM OVER YONDER, by FLORENCE E. D. MUZZY First Line: Love sang to me afar - I did not understand Last Line: "that selfless roves where'er we rove." Subject(s): Love; Singing & Singers | ||||||||
Love sang to me afar -- I did not understand. I would not be a slave nor bow to Love's command . . . Then Love came close and strong, caught me in his embrace -- Oh sudden sweet his song and beautiful his face. "What art thou Love? I cannot know! Yet thou hast substance fine as snow -- And thou hast gracious form and face -- But how canst thou speed here through Space?" From out a light-year's day I hear, And strain to catch Love's whisper clear: -- "Love hath no bounds, no age, no place, Unsought -- like light his rapid pace. "For I am Love and I love thee, Though planet-lives apart are we. I come to thee as to a shrine, For love I serve thee -- dearest, mine! "Did not a cool breeze fan thy cheek When thou wast struggling, worn and weak? Did not a flashing wave of joy Uplift thy soul? 'Twas my envoy. "No sacrifice (if glad thou art) Can be too great for me -- dear heart! Dost thou forget -- when lone and sad -- Came lesser loves to make thee glad? "'Twas e'er the great love that I bear Sent lesser loves thy love to share. No limit be there to true love, That Selfless roves where'er we rove." | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE APOLLO TRIO by CONRAD AIKEN BAD GIRL SINGING by MARK JARMAN CHAMBER MUSIC: 4 by JAMES JOYCE CHAMBER MUSIC: 5 by JAMES JOYCE CHAMBER MUSIC: 28 by JAMES JOYCE THE SONG OF THE NIGHTINGALE IS LIKE THE SCENT OF SYRINGA by MINA LOY |
