SOLDIER'S TALE, by ALEKSEY [ALEXSEI] NEDOGONOV First Line: Two immortalities has the volga Last Line: Source and mouth are they. Subject(s): Soldiers; Volga River, Russia | ||||||||
Two immortalities has the Volga, at source and mouth they flow. Two alarums has the soldier, east and west they go. Two moments of shivering has the woodland, spring and autumn change. Two anxieties has the soldier, battle and guns-in-range. Two loud curses has the soldier: Where's warmth, where's shelter found? Two long wishes has the young bride: Let him be safe and sound! Two long curses has the bride: letters and lying alone. Three medical battalions has the soldier and one right hand, his own. Mountains of sorrow has the soldier: Will she be true to me? And O will he love another girl? that's the girl's misery. They snare happiness with flowers in Volga towns today. Two immortalities has the Volga, source and mouth are they. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...VOLGA by WILSON PUGSLEY MACDONALD FAREWELL TO THE VOLGA by EDNA DEAN PROCTOR THE VOLGA by EDNA DEAN PROCTOR RESPECTABILITY by ROBERT BROWNING THE LAST CHRYSANTHEMUM by THOMAS HARDY THE COMING OF GOOD LUCK by ROBERT HERRICK ODES II, 10 by QUINTUS HORATIUS FLACCUS |
