SONS OF ADAM, by WADE WRIGHT OLIVER First Line: Adam, wrestler with storms Last Line: But the sons of adam crawl. Subject(s): Adam & Eve; Bible; Sons | ||||||||
Adam, wrestler with storms, Lusted and walked like a man. Over the wilderness ways The feet of his questing ran. He knew how the north rains slash, The teeth of the winds bite deep; Knew how the forests war Over a world asleep. Swarthy and lean and hard, Savage as wind and rain, He knew how the gaunt wolf feels Gnawed by the hunger-pain. Adam, wrestler with storms, Battled and laughed and died. And still to the savage joust The rains and the lean winds ride. But the sons of Adam wax fat: Flaccid and fearful they drowse, And count their beads in the dark When the lean hosts rouse. Mumble fat prayers in their fear, Then turn their face to the wall. Adam walked like a man, But the sons of Adam Crawl. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE LATEST INJURY by SHARON OLDS PRAYER DURING A TIME MY SON IS HAVING SEIZURES by SHARON OLDS TWO SONGS OF PEACE: 1 by YEHUDA AMICHAI THE SMALLISH SON by HAYDEN CARRUTH SARAH'S PROMISE by LUCILLE CLIFTON ANY MAN'S ADVICE TO HIS SON by KENNETH FEARING THE RIGHTFUL ONE by DAVID IGNATOW NOW SOFTLY, SILENCE by WADE WRIGHT OLIVER |
