YOU HAVE GONE, by BLANCHE PALMER First Line: When day is done, within a quiet nook Last Line: And only you and I are there. Subject(s): Farewell; Parting | ||||||||
When day is done, within a quiet nook, As in a wooded place when all is still, And I forget my pipe and book And let my thoughts stray as they will, I sit and dream of days gone by; Those happy days when you and I Together traveled glad worlds through. But nowalas! my world was you And life is like a wounded thing That strives to rise on shattered wing. With saddened heart I sitalone And wonder endlessly, my own, Why I must stay and you must go. As though in answered prayer I know Your loving hand upon my hair, And only you and I are there. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE THREE CHILDREN by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN STUDY #2 FOR B.B.L. by JUNE JORDAN WATCHING THE NEEDLEBOATS AT SAN SABBA by JAMES JOYCE SESTINA: TRAVEL NOTES by WELDON KEES I LOVE A VILLAGE by BLANCHE PALMER BOYHOOD FRIENDS by EDGAR LEE MASTERS SING-SONG; A NURSERY RHYME BOOK: 97 by CHRISTINA GEORGINA ROSSETTI |
