MY SCRAPBOOK, by M. ANNETTE PAPAYANAKOS First Line: I wander away to my little secluded brook Last Line: Will end the mystery veiling the deep. Subject(s): Books; Reading | ||||||||
I wander away to my little secluded brook, In my hand a little worn and pasted book Of treasured verses clipped through passing years. Verses that rise and soar through skies of tears. There are clouds and sunshine mingling now with leaves; In the throb and feel of the vibrant, exulting sheaves; In the rugged bits of life, in the battles fought And won and lost, with their scars and bruises fraught With wisdom, truth and the light of the kismet way That life in its book of pages must portray. I ponder here by the singing, twinkling brook; To know that life is just a scintillant book, Reflecting scraps that day by day accumulate And compose the chapters bound in the book of fate. Within my heart, I feel a vibrant song; My thoughts unraveled, words and meters throng. O beautiful melody . . . sweet as an innocent birth! Calm interval of life upon this earth! Too soon, the ode of death, the majestic sleep, Will end the mystery veiling the deep. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...TWO SONNETS: 1 by DAVID LEHMAN THE ILLUSTRATION?ÇÖA FOOTNOTE by DENISE LEVERTOV FALLING ASLEEP OVER THE AENEID by ROBERT LOWELL POETRY MACHINES by CATE MARVIN LENDING LIBRARY by PHYLLIS MCGINLEY |
