ONCE MORE THE ROSE DOTH BLOOM, by GIUSEPPE PARINI Poet's Biography Last Line: Absorbed in useful play Subject(s): Roses | ||||||||
Once more the rose doth bloom That drooped awhile before, Softly reposing on The lily-flowers of yore, And pupils shimmer bright With eager sparks of light. Cheeks are filled plumply out The pretty face to frame, And round about the mouth Flitteth a smile like flame Of vivid lightning sped To lips again flushed red. The tresses that a net, Alas, was wont to hold, Free down his shoulders now Ripple like streams of gold, Waiting new whims whence they May curl in artful way. His ever restless feet New vigour's comfort find ; Nature supports him, lest He bow before the wind, There where are children gay Absorbed in useful play. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE WHISPER OF THE ROSE by EDMUND JOHN ARMSTRONG THE WISDOM OF THE ROSE by ELSA BARKER LOVE PLANTED A ROSE by KATHARINE LEE BATES ROSES; A VILANELLE by LOUISA SARAH BEVINGTON THE PAINTER ON SILK by AMY LOWELL VARIATIONS: 17 by CONRAD AIKEN WORDS IN A CERTAIN APPROPRIATE MODE by HAYDEN CARRUTH SWIFTLY THE DAYS FLY PAST by GIUSEPPE PARINI |
