COMMUNION, by DOROTHEA MERLE PEAK First Line: When just a little miss of ten Last Line: With golden minutes spent with him. Subject(s): Worship | ||||||||
When just a little miss of ten I gave my heart to God, and then Sought altar silence at a tree -- Excluding all but God and me. Beneath the leaves some coins I spied; My wants became diversified. I kept on praying to my God -- Praying for coins upon the sod. Each day did I humbly commune, And hoped to find my fortune soon. I wondered why God did not bare More coins around my place of prayer. Since twenty years have now gone by, I know coins were beneath that sky -- Coins that bought an immortal gem With golden minutes spent with Him. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...COMPANIONSHIP by MALTBIE DAVENPORT BABCOCK FOR I WILL CONSIDER YOUR DOG MOLLY by DAVID LEHMAN RUSSIAN CATHEDRAL by CLAUDE MCKAY LITTLE WHITE CHURCH by MARILYN NELSON A STEEPLE ON THE HOUSE by ROBERT FROST MATE (1) by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON ANSWER TO PRAYER by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON THE TEN COMMANDMENTS by GEORGE SANTAYANA CURTAIN by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON |
