THUMBING A RIDE, by K. L. PENDER First Line: I cannot ride in the city streets Last Line: To thumb me for a ride! Subject(s): Hitchhikers | ||||||||
I cannot ride in the city streets, Nor out in the countryside, But somebody wags a hand at me, Thumbing me for a ride. I go for a swim in the ocean, Come drifting in with the tide: Someone starts sinking a half-mile out, And thumbs me for a ride. I think I'll be safe on the mountain, On my skiis on the Mount Hood slide: I runover a guy half buried in snow, And he thumbs me for a ride. I'm hoping when Death's dark angel Comes to tell me it's time to go, And I follow on to the Beautiful Land Where there's neither frost nor snow ... As I'm trying out my brand new wings And flying high and wide, That no one will stand at the Heavenly Gates, To thumb me for a ride! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...DRIFTERS: BELLA COOLA TO WILLIAMS LAKE by KAREN SWENSON THE HITCHHIKERS by DIANE WAKOSKI POETS HITCHHIKING ON THE HIGHWAY by GREGORY NUNZIO CORSO HITCHING A RIDE WITH GOLD MINERS IN THE YUKON by ALISON APOTHEKER POETS HITCHHIKING ON THE HIGHWAY by GREGORY NUNZIO CORSO |
