DISCOVERY, by CAROL PHILLIPS First Line: I looked at me one day, one day Last Line: To think that I am all of these. Subject(s): Poetry & Poets | ||||||||
I looked at me one day, one day, And made a strange discovery; I am not me at all, at all, But all this that pretends it's me. I am a laugh that some one liked, I am a walk that I acquired; I am a scent of long-gone hours, Of lullaby and dreams half-fired. I am a scrap of poetry, I am a prayer I learned to lisp; I am that hidden unnamed fear, I am the first shy-given kiss. Although I am not me at all I had to laugh at fate's bland tease, That I who thought that I was me -- To think that I am all of these. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ENVY OF OTHER PEOPLE'S POEMS by ROBERT HASS THE NINETEENTH CENTURY AS A SONG by ROBERT HASS THE FATALIST: TIME IS FILLED by LYN HEJINIAN OXOTA: A SHORT RUSSIAN NOVEL: CHAPTER 192 by LYN HEJINIAN LET ME TELL YOU WHAT A POEM BRINGS by JUAN FELIPE HERRERA JUNE JOURNALS 6/25/88 by JUAN FELIPE HERRERA FOLLOW ROZEWICZ by JUAN FELIPE HERRERA HAVING INTENDED TO MERELY PICK ON AN OIL COMPANY, THE POEM GOES AWRY by HICOK.
