DRIVE OF YOUTH, by LOIS STANTON PHILLIPS First Line: Are you, too, parents, whose ideas are old Last Line: Their driving has a purpose, thought out well. Subject(s): Youth | ||||||||
Are you, too, parents, whose ideas are old Who seem to think that two o'clock is late? Are you, too, folks who often must be told That chaperones and such are out of date? And yet our children pick out dross from gold, Are very "choosey" when picking out a mate. They make decisions and are very bold In doing what they think is right. Their fate In nonchalance, is worked out very well. They'll do a better joy of living, I'm sure, Than we, who in our glassy houses dwell. They build with seasoned wood which will endure. Although they rush past us and drive pell mell Their driving has a purpose, thought out well. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...BETWEEN THE WARS by ROBERT HASS THE GOLDEN SHOVEL by TERRANCE HAYES ALONG WITH YOUTH by ERNEST HEMINGWAY THE BLACK RIVIERA by MARK JARMAN |
