IN A GARDEN, by MAMIE GRAY PINKSTON First Line: There is magic in a garden Last Line: Love and labor, faith and god. Subject(s): Gardens & Gardening | ||||||||
There is magic in a garden, Mellow sunshine, growing things, Soft warm earth, and cool green shadows Cast a spell, and all life sings. In a garden, calm and tranquil, Milling thoughts grow tranquil too; Something checks their wild momentum, Reason, serene, now reigns anew. There the heart forgets its sadness, Hopes long dead revive again, Heavy burdens strangely lighten, Peace slips in where grief has lain. Little worries, daily pin pricks, Vexing trifles, magnified, Slowly, gently fade and dwindle, Paltry fears are laid aside. For a garden is not flowers, Light and shadow, leaves and sod, But a place of peace and quiet, Love and labor, faith and God. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...NOVEMBER GARDEN: AN ELEGY by ANDREW HUDGINS AN ENGLISH GARDEN IN AUSTRIA (SEEN AFTER DER ROSENKAVALIER) by RANDALL JARRELL ACROSS THE BROWN RIVER by GALWAY KINNELL A DESERTED GARDEN by GEORGE LAWRENCE ANDREWS NOT THE SWEET CICELY OF GERARDES HERBALL by MARGARET AVISON AN OLD GARDEN by HERBERT BASHFORD |
