BITTERS, by ROSE PORTER First Line: Why do I keep remembering Last Line: To remember? Subject(s): Identity | ||||||||
Why do I keep remembering -- Little things you said? And the intimate way you said them? Why do I cling ... remembering ... To a thrill ... I should have Long ago forgotten? Why do I close my eyes ... seeking To see you ... as I beheld you ... then? So near ... and yet, even as now ... So very far away ... You caressed me ... adoring. For a space I lost identity In the oneness of our being. And, not even our fingertips So much as touched. And ... your lips ...? I can not even remember them. Why ... must I keep remembering ... At all ... I ... who have ... so little To remember? | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MY SKELETON, MY RIVAL by DAVID IGNATOW THE CARIBBEAN: LANGUAGE AS TRANSLUCENT IMMINENCE by WILL ALEXANDER THINGS (FOR AN INDIAN) TO DO IN NEW YORK (CITY) by SHERMAN ALEXIE IF I STAND IN MY WINDOW by LUCILLE CLIFTON THE WAY IT WAS by LUCILLE CLIFTON BESIDE MILL RIVER by MADELINE DEFREES MEDITATION ON A JUNE EVENING by CONRAD AIKEN |
