NIGHT, by ADA JORDAN PRAY First Line: Night has dropped her rosy curtain Last Line: With peace our hearts to fill. Subject(s): Nature; Night; Peace; Sleep; Bedtime | ||||||||
Night has dropped her rosy curtain, The sun has gone to rest; All earth's living things are certain To seek a dreamy nest. Nature now in quiet slumbers Beneath a quilt of mist, Yet one feels the moon's soft glimmer, When by its gleam we're kissed. All the day the birds have twittered, But they too now are still, Plumage in the moonlight glittered, Wings are now across the bill. After bustle of day's hurry, Comes the night so still, All day's artifice condoning, With peace our hearts to fill. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE BREATH OF NIGHT by RANDALL JARRELL HOODED NIGHT by ROBINSON JEFFERS NIGHT WITHOUT SLEEP by ROBINSON JEFFERS WORKING OUTSIDE AT NIGHT by DENIS JOHNSON POEM TO TAKE BACK THE NIGHT by JUNE JORDAN COOL DARK ODE by DONALD JUSTICE POEM TO BE READ AT 3 A.M by DONALD JUSTICE ROUND ABOUT MIDNIGHT by BOB KAUFMAN THE BELLS OF LYNN; HEARD AT NAHANT by HENRY WADSWORTH LONGFELLOW |
