YOUR MARK - MY MARK, by MABEL MARGET RAVENSCRAFT First Line: The children skip Last Line: Your mark -- my mark on life's clear face. Subject(s): Aging | ||||||||
The children skip And blithely slip Along Life's years, Forgetting tears. For childhood days are long, long days And never filled with happy ways. Youth comes along, The will grows strong. Time passes fast; Age comes at last -- A crown to those who do their best, A time for quiet and for rest. Ready? Never! Youth reigns ever In hearts so stout No fear can rout The enduring spark that carries on And lives when life itself is gone. When we are young Life's just begun. With days stretched long Our faith is strong, -- As strong as we will let it be, Enduring to eternity. When we are old And not so bold, We carry on As Youth has gone, On paths that we so long have trod; With fear or courage, face our God. Push not aside The patient stride Of day on day Along Life's way. For as we live these golden days We build a fear, or trust, or praise. So let us pray Just, day by day, In quiet trust That God is just, To bravely reach out to that goal -- Its crown -- a man's Immortal Soul. This day is done. Low falls the sun. Life's journey over For each rover. But surely, as the morrow's sun, No span of life is ever done. So as we build The days are filled. We mark the years With joy or tears. Time passes -- but cannot erase Your mark -- my mark on Life's clear face. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...AFTER THE GENTLE POET KOBAYASHI ISSA by ROBERT HASS MEMORY AS A HEARING AID by TONY HOAGLAND AMOROSA AND COMPANY by CONRAD AIKEN GRAY WEATHER by ROBINSON JEFFERS FROM THE SPANISH by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON TO A SKYLARK by PERCY BYSSHE SHELLEY |
