FOLLY'S HARVEST, by BERNARD RAYMUND First Line: Superb impertinence of youth Last Line: Its unacknowledged way. Subject(s): Harvest; Youth | ||||||||
Superb impertinence of youth That wears the scar of no defeat, On you adversity will set its tooth And find the morsel sweet. That smooth blank of your countenance Time cannot soften into wit, Nor ease what lines will say you met mischance And had the worst of it. The swagger of your rotund hip, The blithe assurance of your gait, Trust not by such sweet insolence to slip From all that lies in wait! For though the winter's latest thaw Work outwardly no change, decay Concealed beneath the colored rind will gnaw Its unacknowledged way. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...BETWEEN THE WARS by ROBERT HASS THE GOLDEN SHOVEL by TERRANCE HAYES ALONG WITH YOUTH by ERNEST HEMINGWAY THE BLACK RIVIERA by MARK JARMAN |
