APATHY, by ELEANORE E. REED First Line: The future's cautious curtain drew aside Last Line: And that to me is ultimate despair. Subject(s): Apathy | ||||||||
The Future's cautious curtain drew aside And, like one viewing from afar An unexpected vista through a wood, I saw the days that were to come untried And all the bareness of my soul beside. The years had altered me. I was not fair, But while accepting this in faith, I quailed and wept against what more I saw, The days ahead a bitter sameness share, And that to me is ultimate despair. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A FIRST ON TV (FOR WALTER CRONKITE) by DAVID IGNATOW MUSEE DES BEAUX ARTS by WYSTAN HUGH AUDEN THE LOVE SONG OF J.
