RELATIVITY, by CALE YOUNG RICE Poet's Biography First Line: Only this at last I say Last Line: Distance is the breadth of the soul. Subject(s): Beauty; Desire; Dreams; Life; Nightmares | ||||||||
Only this at last I say, Beauty that seemed so near is far. All men come to the end of day And see, beyond, the evening star. Where I stand was once my goal; Now my goal is the dream I see Over the rim of the world; and so Goal and desire shall ever be. Shall I lament it? Only the dead Reach a goal that is a goal. Eyes were meant as wings for the mind; Distance is the breadth of the soul. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...VARIATIONS: 14 by CONRAD AIKEN VARIATIONS: 18 by CONRAD AIKEN LIVE IT THROUGH by DAVID IGNATOW A DREAM OF GAMES by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN THE DREAM OF WAKING by RANDALL JARRELL APOLOGY FOR BAD DREAMS by ROBINSON JEFFERS GIVE YOUR WISH LIGHT by ROBINSON JEFFERS A CHARM TO BRING CHILDREN (EGYPT, A.D. 100) by CALE YOUNG RICE |
